Who is...
Charles Cornwallis
The Chevallier’s and the Cornwallis’ were well acquainted for may years, even intermarrying a couple of times. The Cornwallis’ were a Suffolk family, most lauded in the Civil War when they kept the area around Eye in royalist control. Rewarded for their loyalty after the restoration, they earned titles and were gifted lands by Charles II.
Perhaps their most infamous son was Charles Cornwallis, who surrendered Yorktown to the American colonists in 1781, leading directly to a cessation of hostilities and the subsequent independence of America. This beer is a nod to the West Coast style of IPA, and with the Cornwallis’ direct involvement in the evolution of the USA it made perfect sense to name this beer after them. With a small nod to the town of Eye where the brewery is located.
