When our x4 Great Grandfather The Reverend John Barley Chevallier first grew his fabled barley in the early 1800’s, little did he know it would become the world’s foremost brewing barley for nearly 150 years.
It may have subsequently been usurped by better yielding varieties, but as a barley for brewing it is still hard to beat.
So it’s not just family loyalty that leads us to use it, it really does make a difference to the backbone of all our beers, adding honeyed, nutty notes that other barley simply doesn’t possess. Be it our lagers or pale ales, it has presence, and it dovetails neatly into our family story and the characters within and around it.
